This is the Stock Seat Equitation pattern. The classes will enter the arena and perform rail work first. Rail
work consists of performing the gaits allowed for the level both directions in the arena. They will also be
asked to reverse direction. The correct way to do this is turn away from the rail (fence) toward the middle
of the arena.  They will be lined up and at this point the judge may ask them to back up. After backing, the
athletes will be asked to perform the circle work and then return to the line up.

Remember, the athlete should have split reins held in the correct manner. This is something the judge will
look for. In addition to judging conditions explained in National Rules the following will be considered:

Rail work is judged on keeping distance from other horses; correct reversing direction; ability to
demonstrate gait called; how quickly and straight stops are; ability to remain stopped;

The judge will be considering how the athlete manages the wait in the line up as part of their judging
evaluation.

As the athlete rides the circle the judge is looking for:
Maintaining even distance from the cones as he/she rides the circle.
Starting and stopping at the correct place.
Regularity of gait.
Symmetry of circle.
Complete, correct pattern.
